A guarantee control judge imposed a security measure in a detention center against Alexander Acevedo, allegedly responsible for the murder of his cousin and the attempted murder of a friend of the victim, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
The events investigated occurred on January 11, in a home in the Belén Aguas Frías neighborhood, west of Medellín. According to the investigation, Acevedo attacked his 24-year-old cousin with a knife while he was sleeping, causing his death. In the same action, a 35-year-old man who was in the property was seriously injured. Both received injuries to the left side of the chest.
After the attack, the alleged perpetrator was captured by the National Police. During the arrest, authorities seized a bag containing the knife allegedly used in the attack.

During the concentrated hearings, Acevedo did not accept the charges of murder and attempted murder, both crimes aggravated by the circumstances in which they occurred.
The Prosecutor’s Office explained that the decision to impose the security measure seeks to guarantee the preservation of the judicial process and avoid any risk of escape or interference in the investigation. The case remains under study by the Immediate Reaction Unit (URI) of the Medellín Section, which will continue to collect evidence and testimonies to clarify the reasons that led to the attack.
This fact increases the alert in the city, where homicides and violence have increased so far this year, and underlines the importance of rapid intervention by the authorities to protect the community.
