An indescribable tragedy shakes the country this Tuesday, January 13. An 11-year-old boy lost his life after being hit by bullets in a hitman attack directed against his father, Edgar Enrique Rodríguez, who just 10 days ago had taken over as director of the Neiva prison.

The brutal attack occurred at 6:53 am on Route 45, when the family and other Inpec executives were traveling in a private vehicle.

According to authorities, a motorcyclist intercepted the car and fired indiscriminately at least six times, hitting the minor in the head.

Also traveling in the vehicle was the deputy director of the prison, Colonel (R) Renato Solano Osorio, who received two gunshot wounds to the thorax and abdomen, and is currently struggling between life and death at the Hernando Moncaleano Perdomo University Hospital.

The child was rushed to the same healthcare center, but died hours later due to the severity of the injury.

What most baffles the authorities is that Director Rodríguez had no current threats against him, which makes the attack even more terrifying due to the brutality used against a newly appointed official.

The Minister of Justice in charge, Andrés Idárraga, expressed his deep pain and solidarity with the family, demanding speed in the investigations. “It hurts us deeply that this has claimed the life of a minor,” said the official, confirming that the Police have already activated a “lock plan” throughout Huila to find the whereabouts of the murderers. Meanwhile, in Neiva there is panic and total rejection of this act that once again puts Inpec in mourning.
