A shipment of marijuana exceeding 84 kilograms was detected and seized at the El Dorado international airport in Bogotá, during routine controls carried out on parcels transiting through national shipping warehouses.

The procedure was carried out by uniformed officers from the Airport Police Station, who carried out cargo inspection and verification tasks as part of the permanent control operations. During the inspection, an anti-narcotics canine alerted to a box that was exhibiting irregular behavior, which prompted a more detailed inspection of the package.

Inside the parcel, two energy transformers were found that, when thoroughly checked, hid a vegetable substance with a smell and characteristics similar to marijuana. After the verification procedure, the authorities confirmed that there were 71 packages wrapped in vinyl, with a total weight of approximately 84,225 grams of the narcotic.

According to the official report, the shipment had the city of Barranquilla as its origin and the island of San Andrés as its final destination. This modality, according to the authorities, seeks to camouflage illicit substances within commonly used merchandise to try to evade security controls in air cargo transportation.

The seized substance was left at the disposal of the competent judicial authorities, while investigations continue to establish who would be behind the shipment, as well as determine if it is a structure dedicated to the use of parcels to transport narcotics to other regions of the country.

The Security Secretariat and the Bogotá Metropolitan Police reiterated the call to citizens to report any fact that affects security and coexistence, through the emergency line 123 or by going to the nearest CAI, highlighting the importance of reporting and citizen cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.
